Gyms in Bendigo

Greater Bendigo spreads from Eaglehawk and Maiden Gully to Strathfieldsaye and Kangaroo Flat. Say how you like to train, and your enquiry lands with a single gym or studio nearby.

What to know about Bendigo

A council centre that filled up

Gurri Wanyarra Wellbeing Centre opened in October 2018. The City's 2023 aquatic strategy says it has seen exceptionally strong patronage, and reads that as a desire for centres that pair indoor pools with services such as a gymnasium (Community Aquatic Facilities Strategy). Popular is good. Popular also means queues.

  • Visit at the exact time you would train, not mid-morning.
  • Count the free benches and racks while you are there.
  • Ask which hours staff are on the gym floor.

What the Health Club lists

The centre page puts it at 9 Browning Street, Kangaroo Flat. Its Health Club offers a full-service gymnasium to members and casual users, and group fitness classes from yoga to high energy spin. Casual entry is a low-commitment way to test a gym before you sign up. Ask any gym on your list whether it has one. Spin and yoga sit at opposite ends of a timetable, so check that the classes you would use run at hours you can make.

Houses, and an older crowd

In 2021 the ABS recorded 103,034 people in the Bendigo urban area and a median age of 39 (QuickStats). About 19.7% were aged 65 or over, by our count. Of occupied private dwellings, 90.4% were separate houses. If you have been training in a shed or spare room and want coaching rather than a timetable, look at small group training, where a coach watches a handful of people at once.

Three things in the agreement

Unfair terms in gym contracts are something Consumer Affairs Victoria has taken up directly with health and fitness centres. Its page lists terms it got removed or changed, such as automatic renewal that left members no way out when the minimum term ended (Consumer Affairs Victoria). Before you sign, find:

  1. The minimum term, in months.
  2. The notice you must give to leave.
  3. The way you cancel: email, letter or in person.

Asked about Bendigo

Eaglehawk or Golden Square: is that covered?

Both are. The suburb you enter decides which local gym or studio we choose for the referral.

Is a centre with a pool better than a stand-alone gym?

Only if you will swim. Compare the gym-only option with the combined one and pick the one you will actually use.
