Gyms in Perth

Western Australia has a fitness industry code, so a Perth gym contract comes with clear rules. Know them before you sign.

What to know about Perth

WA has a fitness industry code

Western Australia is one of the places where the rules for gyms are set out in a code. WA Consumer Protection says fitness suppliers must follow the WA Fitness Industry Code of Practice. Every new membership must have a seven-day cooling-off period, and you can cancel in that time without giving a reason.

Cancelling a Perth gym membership

You do not have to cancel in person in WA. A letter or an email is enough, and your agreement cannot ask for more than 30 days notice. Check the notice period before you sign so it does not catch you out later.

  • The gym is responsible for cancelling third-party direct debits, not you.
  • The gym must respond to a cancellation request within seven days.
  • Keep a copy of your email and note the date you sent it.

Driving to train

Perth's urban area had 2,098,239 residents at the 2021 Census, and our count of the age rows puts about 28.4% of them between 20 and 39. Of employed people, 62.0% got to work as a car driver. In a city that drives, the right gym is often the one with easy parking on your usual route. Ask about parking, peak times and whether the car park is lit at night.

What to compare

List what you want from a gym before you visit. Open gym access suits people who already follow a program. Small group training and group classes suit people who want a set time and someone running the session. Then tell us your suburb and we pass the enquiry to one local gym.
