A gym at Casuarina

The City of Darwin's Casuarina Aquatic and Leisure Centre has three pools: a 50-metre pool, a temperature-controlled 25-metre pool and a resort-style lagoon pool. A gym sits in the same building. In September 2024 the council announced the new gym would provide 24/7 facilities inside the centre.

Round-the-clock access helps shift workers and anyone who trains before the heat of the day. Ask how after-hours entry works, when staff are on site and what the agreement says about cancelling.

Outdoor gyms by the water

The City of Darwin's Discover Darwin site lists the Nightcliff outdoor exercise stations: 27 pieces of equipment across six stations on Casuarina Drive, between Sunset Park and the Rapid Creek footbridge. East Point has an outdoor gym with ladders, chin-up bars, dip benches and boxing bag holders, plus a section for wheelchair users.

Before you sign in the Top End

• Read the whole membership agreement, not just the summary.
• Ask whether there is a cooling-off period and how long it runs.
• Ask what notice you must give to cancel and how to give it.
• Ask whether you can freeze the membership if you are away for work or travel.

Get every answer in writing. If a gym will not give you a copy of the agreement to take home, keep looking.

Training in a young city

Darwin's urban area had 127,215 residents at the 2021 Census, and about 34.6% of them were aged 20 to 39 by our sum of the age rows.
