Both banks of the Murray
We welcome enquiries from either side of the river: Mildura, Irymple and Red Cliffs in Victoria, Buronga and Gol Gol in New South Wales. Together they formed an urban area of 53,620 people at the 2021 Census, median age 40. Signing up on the Buronga side? Ask the same three questions: how long, how to leave and how much notice. If you will cross the bridge to train, check the opening hours against your trip in both directions.
Mildura Waves at the Alfred Deakin Centre
The council's 2014 aquatic strategy says the indoor aquatic and health and fitness facilities at Mildura Waves were built as a stage two extension at the Alfred Deakin Centre, off Deakin Avenue. It named expanding the gym and health and fitness areas as the biggest issue for a number of years (Aquatic Facilities Redevelopment Strategy 2014-2020). In January 2020 the council reported a May 2019 upgrade of the gym: repainting, new carpet and replacement equipment (Mildura Rural City Council). Both reports are a few years old, so look at the floor as it is today. Ask what has changed since 2019, and whether the gym expansion the strategy talked about went ahead.
Questions for older members
In 2021, by our count, about 19.7% of residents were 65 or over, while flats or apartments made up 5.6% of occupied private dwellings. If you are coming back to training later in life, ask:
- Which hours are quietest?
- Will someone set the machines up with you?
- Is there a hold option for long trips away?
- Is there an induction before you train on your own?
The rollover clause in Victoria
Consumer Affairs Victoria has said some health and fitness centres used terms that renewed a membership on its own and left no way to cancel when the minimum term finished. It worked with centres to remove or change terms like that (Consumer Affairs Victoria). Read your renewal clause twice.
Paid referrals, plainly: the gym or studio that gets your enquiry may pay InterFit for it. We are an independent referral service and pass each request to one local business in Mildura or Buronga.
Mildura questions
Can I send an enquiry from Gol Gol?
Yes. Gol Gol and Buronga are covered like any Victorian suburb. Name the town and the referral goes to a gym within reach of it.
What if I only want a gym for a few months?
Ask each gym whether it has a no-lock-in option or casual entry, and what the minimum term is on the standard membership.
