Gyms in Coburg

Coburg has a year-round council leisure centre, an outdoor exercise park and a creek trail close by. Here is what to look at before you join a gym.

What to know about Coburg

Coburg Leisure Centre

Merri-bek City Council says its pools and leisure centres cover swimming, gym and group fitness. Coburg Leisure Centre is one of its four year-round centres, at Bridges Reserve on Russell Street. Coburg Olympic Swimming Pool in Murray Road, Coburg North, is a seasonal council pool.

The centre has a long-term plan behind it. Merri-bek's aquatic strategy sets out funding it needs to raise within the next 15 years to redevelop Coburg Leisure Centre. If you join, ask whether any works are planned during your membership term.

An exercise park for older residents

Next to the Coburg Senior Citizens Centre, close to the leisure centre and City Oval, Merri-bek has a seniors' exercise park. Its outdoor equipment is set up for balance, strength, functional movement and mobility work. It is a low-key place to start before you try a gym floor.

On the Merri Creek Trail

The Merri Creek Trail runs 21 km and passes Coburg Lake Reserve. A gym near the trail lets you walk or ride in and do your lifting at the end.

Keep your paperwork

Coburg had 26,574 residents at the 2021 Census, with a median age of 37, and 25.3% of households were one person living alone. If you live alone, nobody else will remember the cancellation date for you. Consumer Affairs Victoria's guide says members should always be given a copy of the completed contract bearing their signature after joining. Ask for yours on the day.
