A council gym on the drawing board
Tamworth Regional Council is planning an Aquatic, Education and Health Centre of Excellence in the Tamworth Sports and Entertainment Precinct. The council calls it a fully accessible aquatics and fitness facility, to be delivered in three stages. The Stage 1 concept lists an indoor 50m 10-lane pool, a warm water program pool, a spa and sauna, a gym and health and fitness rooms. The council says this is a concept only and the final design will change.
So there is no council gym to join in Tamworth today. Follow the council's project page for progress. In the meantime, compare private gyms on the things that matter to you.
The Sports Dome
The Tamworth Sports Dome at 7-9 Jack Smyth Drive, next to AELEC, is council-run. It has seven indoor multi-purpose courts and 18 outdoor netball courts, with badminton, basketball, futsal, netball, table tennis, tennis, pickleball and volleyball on offer. Booked events take preference over the listed hours. It is a place for court sport. Gym training means a gym.
The pools this season
The Tamworth pools open from Monday 12 October 2026 to Friday 9 April 2027. The Tamworth Olympic Swimming Pool on Bridge Street and Kable Avenue is outdoor, 50 metres and seven lanes. The South and West Tamworth War Memorial pool will not be heated this season, because its boiler has reached the end of its useful life. Mixing laps with lifting? Pick a gym on your way to the pool.
Choosing a gym for now
- Can you join month to month?
- Does the gym open early enough for you?
- Is there a coached class at your time?
- Is the cancellation notice written down?
Every Tamworth enquiry goes to one gym or studio. InterFit is independent, and the business that receives yours may pay for the referral. Start here.
